Through the later half of the 20th century to the present, Las Vegas has been one of the most famous entertainment capitals of the world, constantly attracting visitors from all corners of the world.  For many, the city is one giant roulette table: the wheel of fortune eternally turning in the middle of everything and everyone vacuuming their hopes and ambitions.  For others, it is a paradise island in the middle of the desert sea, where the flood of neon and infinite choice of attractions make them detach from the reality and leave them with a dizzy hung over from the excessiveness of all.  Regardless of your purpose of the visit, the city is a glamorous show on its own lasting all night ever night.  Like one giant ball of neon light shining upon the Strip and the sky above, the city continues to attract the people, giving them a slight rush of blood as they catch the simmering rainbow colored mirage in the distant horizon.  Remember the excitement at the beginning of the stage show when the orchestra starts their final sound checks and light starts to dim?  Remember the rise of curiosity as the red curtain moves slightly so you get the glimpse of the stage and the frantic people behind as they run around on stage for the last touch up?

The new Las Vegas sign invites visitors to the largest show on the Earth, the city of Las Vegas, without being a show itself.  It is a gateway to the fun and excitement of the city.  The metallic fabric is draped down from the steel pole over-handing the roads.  When the curtain is perfectly still, it appears as a still plane of translucent polished metal sheet partially reflecting the earth and sky around but, at the same time, the image of the city can be seen through the fabric like a mirage.  When it gently moves in the wind, the degree of transparency starts to shift.  It starts to create the patterns of light and shadow, bright and dark, the nature and the manmade city beyond, the reality and the fantasy, and the dream and heart-broken.  During the night, it becomes the screen of projected images.  The projection can be changed from flood of colors to sings/logos and promotional images of the current events.  The image can be simultaneously changed or be static for different visual impacts.

The sign represents the city of Las Vegas in any appearance as desired, symbolizing the ever changing superficiality of the city during day and night.
