INTIMATE STRANGER, USA, 1991, 16mm, color, 60 min, English. This film is a personal, yet global investigation filled with the conflicting memories of a fractious family. Combining biography, personal inquiry, 20th century history and striking home movies, it is a stunning and totally original memoir of Berliner’s elusive grandfather, Joseph Casuto. Made 20 years after Joseph’s death, the film, says Berliner: “…walks the fine line between sorting the familty dirty laundry and polishing the precious jewel.” Audience Award, 1992 San Francisco International Film Festival.
